The pirates still operating off the coast of Somalia have a relatively sophisticated PR machine, which includes spokespeople and a form letter to victims, politely explaining what they need to do to get their ship back.

The letter could use some editing, however. Ship owners hijacked by one group of pirates calling itself “Jamal’s Pirate Action Group” receive a form letter on letterhead adorned with a skull and crossed swords, which starts out with this greeting: “Congratulations to the Company/Owner,” according to Reuters’ Ben Berkowitz, who has the exclusive report on the pirates’ personalized stationary and form letter. The rest of the missive strikes an equally jarring tone, partly for their overly polite appeal and partly for the poor translation into English.

Once again, I am obsessed with Turkish football.

If the continental game is defined by the indomitable Germans and catennaciari Italians, the further into the outskirts one travels, the more heroic and passionate one finds the stereotypes: tika-taka Spaniards, flash-and-sizzle Portuguese, the recursively insane Englishmen and the Brazilskih Yugoslavs. But over at the far Eastern edge one encounters the red-clad red-headed stepchildren of UEFA.

As a national team, Turkey is far too familiar to be a stranger and a bit too strange to be welcomed in the fold. They may be a founding member of UEFA, they have had legendary runs in the World Cup (2002) and in Europe (2008), but the sheen of strangeness has never quite worn off. Turkey isn’t viewed as a fringe-y and dangerous selection the likes of Belgium or Russia but rather the very inverse of European football. If Germany represents the Ego then Turkey must be the Id. Always talented, they lack the mettle and the discipline to truly rise to ascendancy.

If you think that Downton Abbey characters aren’t all emcees, you don’t understand that show at all.

The Dowager Countess: Jay-Z (Obviously. She is the O-est of Gs. Also, I’m fairly sure “What’s a weekend?” was actually a line on Watch The Throne)
Mrs. Crawley: Nas (An early challenger to Hov but ultimately unable to claim the title of best rapper alive)
Matthew: Kanye (Originally thought to be “too soft” for the big time, now one of the biggest names in rap)
Lord Grantham: Q-Tip (Old school, easy going, not one to engage in feuds but not defenseless either, if provoked)
Mary: Lil Wayne (The only rapper who can really challenge Hov for “greatest rapper alive,” but also clearly a representative of a different, more modern period)
Edith: The Game (Always trying to start feuds with the other rappers, but mostly gets quickly shot down and/or ignored)
Sybil: ?uestlove (The personal and cultural bridge between the mainstream rappers and left-wing indie rappers)
Anna: Nicki Minaj (Weezy’s protege, such a badass that no one really messes with her)
Bates: Drake (In love with Nicki Minaj but haunted by his demons and the crazy women in his life)
Branson: Mos Def (Left wing, disdains the mainstream rappers)
Carson: Diddy (Keeps the whole scene together for a while, stands awkwardly in the background of other rappers’ videos)
Patrick: MF DOOM (Wears a mask, doesn’t always appear in public as the man he says he is)
Kemal Pamuk: Ol’ Dirty Bastard (Likes it raw, dead)
Mrs. Patmore: Raekwon (The chef)
Daisy: Lil’ Bow Wow (Inconsequential in every way)

Anyone have anything to add? We’re noticeably missing rappers for Lady Grantham, Mrs. Hughes, O’Brien, Thomas, Carlisle, and (the first) Mrs. Bates.

I agree with all of this, but just want to underline how much of a fucking embarrassment it is that Dana Perino ever found a high ranking place in government. She’s a disaster.

Watching this video is like hearing “Montana” for the first time all over again. It shook me then; this time, it crushed me. Tyler T. Williams video treatment of Trevor Powers’ magnificent composition is beautiful and poignant. It pairs with the music perfectly, marrying its slightly foggy visuals and old-timey feel to the incredible expansion of the music. The story is brought to life and filled with lush, stirring emotions, giving it such power… I cannot say enough about this. His debut, Year of Hibernation, isn’t even out yet. It will be released September 27th via Fat Possum in the U.S. and Lefse in Europe [link].
